ePsychiatry

ePsychiatry
ePsychiatry is the use of a highly secure videoconferencing system to provide psychiatric evaluation, consultation, and treatment services. This technology allows a psychiatric practitioner in one location to treat a patient in a different location. The high quality audio and video connections make a ePsychiatry session seem almost like a face-to-face session.
The Westchester Medical Center Health Network has been using ePsychiatry as an integral component of psychiatric services in several of its programs since 2015. The use of ePsychiatry has enhanced access to care.
The main benefit of ePsychiatry is enhanced access to care. Because services are available from practitioners in multiple locations, more appointment times are available for patient scheduling, and they are available in more locations. Patients do not have to wait for appointments at the location closest to their home or deal with the inconvenience and cost of traveling to distant locations. In our network, patients also have access to a wider range of psychiatric practitioners with different specializations and areas of expertise through the use of ePsychiatry.
